Stormy Times

I spent my college years in Utah. Having grown up on the south side of Chicago, it represented quite a shift culturally, as well as in my physical surroundings. One of the first things I noticed was that you could see a storm coming from many miles away. From our university, which was nestled at the base of the Watsch mountains, one could see storms forming across the valley and on distant mountain ranges. Some of these never traveled far enough to reach us, others eventually touched down directly on top of the campus. This was all new to me. Where I spent my youth, the terrain was flat, the area densely populated, and storms were rarely detected until they were seemingly right on top of you. The luxury of seeing it coming was not an option.

As I pondered today’s topic, it occurred to me this is a compelling metaphor for the types of storms we often experience in our everyday lives. There are storms that we can see coming from miles and miles away. We watch the clouds gather, sense the wind picking up, yet we stand flat-footed up to and including the point where the storm reaches our location. Adding insult to injury, we lament and often question how we didn’t see it coming, when in reality we did. Awkwardly though, we persist in our denial. These types of storms from a shamanic point of view are very connected to our shadow self. If we take the time to look at them, ponder their effect, we can avoid being tossed to and fro during different periods of our lives.

There are other types of storms. These come up unexpectedly, leaving no time to anticipate, but rather requiring some immediate adjustment or action to take place in the moment. You might be on a beautiful walk in the woods marveling at the grandeur and beauty of the world and suddenly the sky grows dark and, in a flash, you are caught in a torrential rain. To make matters worse you are miles away from your car. These types of storms, I believe, can be best viewed through the lens of astrology. By becoming aware of what energies are currently at work in your life, you can be prepared for these pop-up type of storms. It will still rain, but you will be better equipped for the rain when it arrives.

This is the work that I do. As a Shaman and Astrologer, I use these two ancient arts to work with you wherever you might find yourself on life’s journey. If you have been watching the same storm for years forming on a distant mountain range, only to be surprised each time it lands on you, let’s meet and do some shadow work. I can help you understand why you might be repeating this pattern. If you want to have a greater awareness of the current weather in your life, what the next year might look like, and where there may be some potential storminess, we can talk about that too. In a way, I act as your personal weatherman, one who helps you to dress and plan appropriately for what lies ahead. It’s your choice from there on out to dance in the rain.
