Chase the Cat

Why must I feel like that Why must I chase the cat

When George Clinton uttered these words, he admitted to being in an "enhanced" state when he recorded this, entering the studio "blind as a bat and out of my head." "'I'm chasin' the cat' and lines like that, I was just doing that symbolically, like chasin' a woman or chasin' whatever, those instinctive things that you don't have much to do with, the automatic muscles," Clinton told Creem in 1983. In his floaty and weightless state of mind, George was deep into the mystery of why we are who we are and specifically why we do what we do?

“The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.” C.G. Jung

I have shared the story of my introduction to astrology in previous blogs. It was in that moment it felt as if a portal of understanding, that had previously eluded me, opened up and illuminated my mind with a knowledge that held the key to “why we do what we do”. Remarkably it was all there, whispering from an ancient circle, divided in twelve segments, and populated with our local planetary bodies locations as of a person’s birthdate, birthplace, and birth time.

“The starry vault of heaven is in truth the open book of cosmic projection, in which are reflected the mythologems, i.e., the archetypes. In this vision astrology and alchemy, the two classical functionaries of the psychology of the collective unconscious, join hands.”

- C.G. Jung

It’s as if at the time the soul enters a human body, there is one last glance upward at the mirror in the sky, which in that moment reflects back an indelible imprint of what the universe wanted to manifest. Under the eye of a skilled and adept astrologer this sacred imprint can be mined for critical information and insight into who you are and why you do what you do. And don’t we all want to know that?

One can quickly learn for instance about what lies at the core of your personality. What is your purpose? How do you go about making decisions and why? What is it you are striving to become (whether you are consciously aware of it or not)? How do you best express yourself? How do you process things cognitively? In what manner do you choose to communicate? How do you deal with your emotions, feelings, and needs? What is your preferred method of engaging in relational matters? How and why do you come to your personal truth and philosophy about life and its meaning? When it comes to form and structure, what do you prefer?

“There is a thinking in primordial images, in symbols which are older than the historical man, which are inborn in him from the earliest times, eternally living, outlasting all generations, still make up the groundwork of the human psyche. It is only possible to live the fullest life when we are in harmony with these symbols; wisdom is a return to them.”

--C.G. Jung

In the astrological readings I do, I always share the following thoughts. I believe that life is two things. Fate and free will. We spend our lives jumping between them both. At times we live fatefully, while at other times we live very willfully. The gift of astrology in my opinion is to help us better understand the fateful part of our journey. Make no mistake, fate is a strict taskmaster. Think of it as a muffled echo of a verbal agreement we made prior to coming here. I can help you hear that echo more clearly…
