Eclipses, Nodal Shifts, and the Greenland Connection
August 2026 follows what many in the astrological community consider one of the most anticipated months of the past century or more. Barbault’s Basket captured widespread attention with its generational configuration, whose significance will likely unfold gradually over the coming years. Still, August carries major astrological weight of its own. Two events stand out: the nodal shift into Leo and Aquarius, last seen 18.6 years ago in 2007, and both a Solar and Lunar Eclipse. I will not address everything on the list below but rather those things I believe carry the highest influence moving forward.

Chiron stations Rx 8/3/2026
The month begins with the wisest among the centaurs, Chiron, and teacher of heroes such as Achilles, Asclepius, Jason, and Heracles turns around and revisits the fires of Aries one more time before taking up residence in Taurus on 4/28/2027. From that point, Chiron remains in Taurus until around 2033–2034, completing its full transit through the sign.
Chiron retrograde is often understood as a period when the “wounded healer” theme turns inward. Old hurts, vulnerabilities, and recurring patterns may resurface for review, shifting attention from outward action to inner work, therapy, and integration. From August 3, 2026, to April 28, 2027, the central themes are:
- Intensified self-reflection
- Revisiting old wounds
- Healing vs. reliving
Because this retrograde occurs in Aries, these themes center on selfhood, identity, courage, and self-assertion. Rather than learning these lessons for the first time, this period emphasizes integrating what has emerged during Chiron’s eight-year journey through Aries. It invites you to transform wounds around autonomy, courage, and the self into a more conscious, embodied way of leading your life.
On a mundane astrological level, this retrograde tends to resurface old wounds around identity, leadership, courage, and aggression so they can be examined and ideally integrated. Rather than signaling new external crises, it is more of a revisit-and-reprocess phase for themes that have been developing since Chiron first entered Aries in 2018.
Likely collective themes include:
- Leadership, power struggles, and questions of who gets to lead
- War, conflict, and the ethics of using force
- Masculinity, patriarchal systems, and gendered power
- National identity and self-determination
- Health, athletics, and the body politic
- Revolutionary impulses and social movements
On a mundane level, this period can feel as though the world is being asked: After everything we have experienced since 2018, how can we heal our relationship with courage, conflict, and the right to lead our own lives together?
Total Solar Eclipse in Leo 8/12/2026
On August 12, 2026, there will be a Total Solar Eclipse. As can be seen from the table above, the visibility of this eclipse in the northern hemisphere will be specifically Europe, North in Asia, North/West Africa, much of North America, Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic. Why does this matter? From an astrological perspective, a total solar eclipse is generally considered most potent along its actual path of totality which is the narrow band on Earth where the Sun is fully covered. For practitioners of Mundane astrology, special attention is paid to cities and regions directly under the umbra when timing events, elections, or geopolitical shifts.
Before we look at any country charts comparing it to the moment this eclipse occurs, let’s briefly review the nature of an eclipse through the lens of astrology. The manner of analysis that an astrologer uses to look at the effects of an eclipse is to superimpose the eclipse degrees into an astrological chart looking specifically at the natal house its impacting. The next step is to look at any aspects (e.g. conjunctions, oppositions, and squares are the priority) from the eclipse to other planets in the chart. If there is nothing near the eclipse, then the impact is minimal to nil.
Eclipses are considered to “obscure” matters of the house or matters related to the planet they are in aspect to. The concept being, there is a disruption of the energy of these planets and houses. In turn this makes it difficult to manifest their agenda, or delay manifestation, or even make it seem out of reach, or just fail to occur.
In addition to obscuring things, the other result attributed to them is to “bring hidden things to light” related to matters of the house it occupies and related to the planets they aspect. What typically transpires is that there is a revelation of what has been brewing under the surface with these planets and houses.
Lastly it also brings out secrets, or things that have been hidden. When they come out the result is often disruptive.
The basic mechanics of a Solar Eclipse is that it consists of the Moon passing between the Earth and Sun, blocking the Sun. There are four types of Solar Eclipses. This one, on August 12th is considered a Total Eclipse. Here is what it looks like in a chart cast for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:
The August 12, 2026, total solar eclipse is a relatively short but symbolically notable eclipse, with a path that strongly favors theArctic, Greenland, Iceland, and western Europe (especially Spain and a bit of Portugal), while only a partial eclipse is visible from much of North America.
Given all the headlines over the past several years concerning Greenland, I thought it would be of interest to look at the eclipse in the context of their chart. There isn’t a single, universally agreed “official” founding chart for Greenland the way there is for the U.S. (Sibley) or some European nations, but several astrologers do work with charts they treat as Greenland’s mundane horoscope. The one I favor is for June 21, 2009, at 00:00 cast for Nuuk, Greenland. Known as the “Self-Rule” chart it marks the moment of the Self‑Rule Act (Selvstyre), Greenland gained even more autonomy including recognition as a distinct people under international law and greater control over resources. Because quadrant-based house systems create highly exaggerated houses in the charts cast at high latitudes I have cast this chart using a Whole Sign house system. The eclipse falls in Greenland’s 8th house. In mundane astrology, this house relates to hidden resources, what lies beneath the surface, foreign trade and investment, economic treaties, and financial exchange between nations. In a national chart, the 8th house can also point to oil, minerals, and other subterranean resources, especially when themes of debt, shared ownership, crisis, or foreign control are involved.
Against the current backdrop, in which the United States has openly expressed interest in buying or taking over Greenland, an eclipse in this part of the chart feels especially significant. A recent New York Times article points to themes this Total Solar Eclipse may foreshadow, noting Greenland’s deposits of rare-earth minerals, including lithium and neodymium, which are vital for batteries, electric vehicles, and advanced technology, as well as potential oil and gas reserves, despite Greenland’s ban on new oil and gas exploration.
Because eclipses are associated with revealing what is hidden, something may surface during the six-month window when this eclipse is most active, particularly concerning Greenland’s buried resources. The Neptune/Jupiter conjunction opposite the eclipse from Greenland’s 2nd house of the national economy may offer further insight. Neptune’s connection to oil, gas, obscurity, and hidden matters suggests that information about Greenland’s subterranean wealth could come to light. Its dissolving quality may also lift the veil of secrecy or confusion surrounding what lies beneath Greenland.
Jupiter’s conjunction with Neptune in Greenland’s 2nd house further ties these themes to the national economy and may suggest abundance or substantial reserves. It may also point to laws, regulations, and collective beliefs surrounding oil and gas, especially given Greenland’s current ban on new exploration.
Turning our attention back to the USA Sibley chart I find it highly synchronistic that this same Total Solar Eclipse lands in the 8th house of our nation’s founding chart. Is this a period where the banter, angling, and bluster between the United States and Greenland takes on a different vibe? Will something that has been going on in darkness come to light?
Its also important to pause a moment and integrate the sign of this eclipse being in Leo. In the world of mundane astrology, this is a fixed fire sign. In general terms this indicates a time where the focus leans into a nation’s identity, initiative, courage, self‑expression, leadership, vision, belief systems. Furthermore, eclipses in fire signs tend to feel dramatic, forward‑pushing, and identity‑charged. As things unfold, it will be of interest to see if these characteristics emerge as part of the narrative.
A final note, and not one I take great pleasure in mentioning is the 8th houses association with the death of leading politicians and increases in the national death rate. With this dramatic Leo Total Lunar Eclipse its important to note this also falls within the realm of possibilities. Leo is remarkably associated with kings, rulers, castles, government, presidents, and thrones. Is this a double message?
Nodal Axis shifts North Node Aquarius/South Node Leo 8/18/2026
I like to think of nodal axis shifts as the background music of the cosmos changing. At these 18-month thresholds, something subtle yet profound begins to move beneath the surface of life. The atmosphere itself seems to alter, as though a new frequency has been threaded into the collective field. In this way, the nodal shift marks the beginning of a new developmental chapter for both the individual and the world around us. The North Node points toward what is calling us forward, what is unfamiliar, and what the soul is being invited to stretch into, while the South Node reveals what has been overused, outgrown, or is ready to be surrendered.
On August 18th, the nodes shift into an Aquarius North Node and Leo South Node, and the tone changes from the mutable waters and earth of Virgo and Pisces into the fixed fire and air of Leo and Aquarius. This is a movement from receptivity, protection, and adjustment toward vision, invention, and awakening. Virgo and Pisces speak to the sacred tasks of healing, refinement, compassion, and discernment. Aquarius and Leo, by contrast, awaken us to a more galvanic current, one that asks for creative risk, social awareness, originality, and the courage to stand in a wider field of consciousness. There is something more electric, more future-facing, and perhaps more destabilizing in this alignment, as if we are being asked to trust the unknown rather than cling to what is already familiar.
This nodal shift also carries a deeper spiritual message about the relationship between the self and the collective. Leo, as the South Node, may ask us to loosen our attachment to personal performance, pride, or the need to remain at the center of the stage. Aquarius, as the North Node, invites us into a more transpersonal way of being, one that honors community, innovation, and the intelligence of the group soul. We are being asked to remember that individuation is not the same as isolation, and that the self is refined not only through self-expression, but through participation in something larger than itself. During this cycle, unexpected events may break open stale patterns and reveal where we have become too fixed in our own identity. What once felt like certainty may now give way to revelation, and what once seemed unfamiliar may become the very doorway through which grace enters.
Leo Sun Conjunct the South Node at the 29th Degree — 8/21/2026
Consider this section a placeholder for a more detailed exploration of the Leo Sun at the 29th degree conjunct the South Node. Seeing this alignment occur in August prompted me to ask how often the Sun has been at Leo’s 29th degree, the anaretic degree, while also conjunct the South Node at that same degree. My historical research revealed a clear pattern connected to specific societal trends.
That research led to an in-depth YouTube video I plan to release, titled The Lion’s Gate Returns ~ A Sacred Cycle Spanning 1,500 Years. In it, I will examine the Sabian symbol for this degree, the Saros cycle tied to the preceding eclipse, and the structure of this recurring pattern. Since 537 CE, it has returned nine times, including a 242-year Great Cycle and a secondary 93-year interval all converging at the Lion’s Threshold.

Today we live in an age of constant acceleration, where life moves at something close to the speed of thought, and that may only be the warm-up for what lies ahead. The world now comes at us through screens, alerts, headlines, and endless streams of information, asking more of our nervous systems than they were ever designed to give. That is why I often close with a reminder to seek out moments of stillness, reflection, and silence. These are not luxuries; they are necessities, small sanctuaries where the soul can exhale and the mind can soften. In those quiet spaces, we make room for grace. We create a little breathing room between ourselves and the anxious tide of the modern world. And as the pace around us continues to quicken, these practices will only become more essential.
